If that's the case, he needs to be banned from using the machinery. Shortcuts where safety will be compromised are a no-no in my book. He's lucky not to have earned the nickname "Stubby".

Give it time - he's already cut one finger, so he's too stupid to quit using that thing.

(But, yes, if I saw that on one of my safety inspections, I'd confiscate it immediately.)
