Stop at the hardware store on the way into work, and buy a bag of rock salt before they're all gone. With freezing rain coming, you'll need it.

Rob, according to Jalopnik rock salt is apparently approaching unobtainium levels in certain parts of the North American continent - as in (like ammo) there's none on the shelf at any big box store. In fact there's a poster there that's currently attempting to daily drive a corvette in Montreal with ~300 pounds of salt on board for ballast who was advised to conceal the bags due to the increased risk of car theft/break in.

Oh, I know - Ottawa is one of those parts. (I was lucky enough to find a store that still had some on a quiet shelf near the back of the store, last night. I bought two large pails of ice melter instead of a "shaker" bottle that they had out where people could see them.)

Buy it when you can. We've grown unaccustomed to this amount of snow in a year.
